Dear Mr. Shaw, I regret to inform you and the Flight Standards Retirees that my father Paul James Baker passed away into the hands of our Lord on November 27th, 2009. My Dad served with the CAA and FAA from 1957 to 1981, retiring as Regional Director of the central Region. Upon retirement he spent 5 years with Gates Learjet as VP of Flight Operations and Chairman of their Safety Board. He was very proud of his career with the FAA.

Paul James Baker 89, who was born in Hastings, Pennsylvania died November 27, 2009. He is survived by his wife Margaret of Benbrook, Texas, daughter Donna Morrow of Arlington Texas, sons Patrick Baker of Tucson, Arizona and Perry Baker of The Woodlands, Texas, granddaughters Morgan Morrow, Khrystal Baker, Samantha Baker, Savannah Baker and Nichole Baker, and his sister Mary Catherine Stamps of New Kensington, PA. He was preceded in death by his son Paul, daughter Denise, his parents Dennis and Madeline (Sullivan) Baker and three brothers, Robert, Edwin Dennis and Joseph. He served in WWII as a pilot for the Army Air Corps. He also served as a Regional Director of the Federal Aviation Administration and Vice President and Chairman of the Safety Board for Gates Learjet Corporation. He was a member of the American Legion Post 36, VFW 549, DAV 18. He was a life long member of the (QB) Quiet Birdman Society, former member of the International Organization of Air Safety Investigators, National Aeronautics Association and a member of the leadership circle of the national committee to preserve Social Security and Medicare. He was a friend and mentor to many and a wonderful father and grandfather. He will be greatly missed by his children and grandchildren and all others who knew and loved him. Funeral services were held at Sts. Simon and Jude Catholic Church in The Woodlands, Texas at 11:00am on Friday December 4, 2009.
