David Clair Detamore,
David Clair Detamore, 94, of Weatherby Lake, Mo., passed away Tuesday, August 4,
2009.
David was born April 28, 1915, in La Junta, Colo., the son of Lydia and Clarence Detamore. As a youth,he homesteaded more than 770 acres with his father and then Joined the Civilian Conservation Corps. (CCC) upon graduation from high school-After receiving a scholarship to the Sterling, Colo., Flight Instructor School, David later graduated the top of his class as a pilot instructor and served his country as a civilian military flight instructor during World War II.
He married the love of his life, Louise Clemmensen, of Trinidad, Colo., on June 13,1937. David retired from the FAA after 38 years of service and was a longstanding member of the Quiet Birdmen (QBs) Pilots Association. David, also known by his middle name, Clair, was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather and was affectionately referred to by his family and many young friends as "Poppa". David is survived by his daughters Roberta L. Huke of Platte Woods, Mo., and Beverly C. Burns and her husband Robert of Parkville, ,Mo.; his four grandchildren, David Burns and his wife Peggy of Parkville, Mo., Jeff Burns of Kansas City, Mo,, Tracey Huke and his wife Monica of Parkville, Mo., Carrie Huke Hibbeler and her husband Gregg of Lake Waukornis, Mo.; seven great; grandchildren, Taylor and Tanner Burns, Ethan and Ainsley Burns, Katie, Nicholas and Sarah Hibbeler, and other family members and friends.
