Douglas Adair McCartha

Douglas A. McCartha son of Adair McCartha And Margie Shealy,
was born July 16,1943
at Lexington, SC and departed this life May16, 2008 at his
home as a result of a heart disease.
Doug attended Lexington High School in Lexington
and graduated from Camden
Military
Academy in Camden,
SC. He is a graduate of North Carolina
State College, Raleigh, NC.
On June 20, 1970
he was united in marriage with Joyce Bomeman who survives.
Several years after obtaining his pilot’s license, he moved
to Alaska in 1969 and flew as a
bush pilot. In 1970 he was employed by the FAA. His duties included Flight
Service in Fairbanks, Alaska.
Air traffic Controller and FAA Inspection Pilot. Doug
also served in the National Guard. He retired after thirty years of service as
an active pilot. He enjoyed his retired years, caring for his farm and horses.
His memberships included being a life member of the Masonic
Lodge #152 in Lexington, SC , a
thirty year member of the Eagle Lodge, United
Church in Lithia
Springs, GA, Missouri Fox
Trotters Association, and a member of Ham Radio Operators.
He was preceded in death by his father Adair McCartha.
He is survived by his wife Joyce; his mother; Margie McCartha Shealy and her
husband Joe of Gilbert, SC; a brother Robert McCartha and his wife Kathryn of
Newberry, SC ; nephews and nieces, Douglas C McCartha, Frances McCartha ; Susan
Spector and Bradley Mayberry.
